Our History

In the early 2000s, like-minded families in the Peachtree City, Fayetteville, and Newnan areas sought a Christ-centered, biblically-dependent education that held a high academic standard without sacrificing the central role of the home. In the fall of 2004 under the leadership of Dr. Sarah Tinsley, Veritas Classical Training began with three core classes – a 3rd/4th grade, a 5th/6th grade, and a 7th/8th grade – and met at Emmanuel Bible College in Peachtree City. It was a 1-day a week program with no math, science, or language. Parents would send a check for tuition in their students’ folder once a month; teachers split the cost of rent.

As the program grew, it relocated to Faith Bible Church’s new building in Sharpsburg for the 2005-2006 school year. With more space, Veritas added math and science to its courses as well as expanding both lower and upper grades every few years. In 2008, the program obtained 501(c)(3) status and went through the Georgia Accreditation Commission for recognition as a non-traditional educational center at the highest quality level recognized by the GAC.

To distinguish itself from other similarly-named programs, the name was changed to Coram Deo Classical School. CDCS had always leaned towards a classical mindset and followed leaders like Douglas Wilson and Susan Wise Bauer. With accreditation came accountability in student records and transcripts, centralized financials, and curriculum/instruction uniformity. CDCS transitioned slowly but surely from a 1-day, Christ-centered, classically academic program into a functioning collaborative school.

CDCS held its first formal graduation ceremony in 2009, and in 2010 moved to a larger space: First Presbyterian Church in Peachtree City. To build a healthy community and more opportunities for fellowship among students and families, CDCS faculty and families worked together on building a distinct school culture of activities, traditions, and annual celebrations, such as formal graduations, school plays and concerts, student government, Beta Club, yearbook, school dances, science and history fairs, poetry recitals, grandparents day, and a Coram Deo 5k race.

As popular culture strayed further and further from Christian foundations, CDCS committed to a more purposeful defense of the truth as a beacon of light for the gospel. This provided CDCS the opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to Classical Christian Education aimed toward truth, goodness, and beauty of which God is the ultimate standard. Under the wise watch-care of the Board of Directors, CDCS became a member school of the Association of Classical Christian Schools at the end of 2022 and is currently pursuing ACCS accreditation in addition to the GAC endorsement held since 2009.

To lead Coram Deo Classical School in the next chapter of its rich history, Dr. Tinsley and the Board of Directors called Mr. Matthew Huff to be the next Headmaster in January 2025. Under his leadership, CDCS will continue to help students become fully alive in Christ through transformative encounters with the True, the Good, and the Beautiful, all to the glory of God and for the good of His kingdom.
